It started off from as a blog post, spread to facebook and then like wild fire through smses and emails... such is the power of technology, that thousands of people landed up near the Gateway of India on the 3rd of December exactly one week after, to pay their respects and to raise a voice.
It was heartening to see the response. People from all walks of life and from all parts of Bombay came together that evening. There were some celebrities too without their usual security cover, so definitely what happened in Bombay has affected people like nothing has ever before. Unfortunately it always takes some disaster for us to sit up and take notice!
But what was disheartening to see was many different groups with different messages. Towards the end, the rally almost became like a Pakistan bashing march completely defeating the purpose. There was no one common goal or agenda. At one point I felt that in our protests itself there was no unity, how will we ever come together to find a workable solution?
If the idea was to show strength in numbers we could have just sat down silently to show our anger. The situation as it was, was potentially dangerous. Thousands of people, very little security and tempers running high.
I don't think I will go for another protest march cause this one was quite pointless. I don't know what the media made out of it... cause I didn't manage to catch its telecast or the discussions based on the movement on TV that night.
I appreciate the effort and the thought that went into getting people together, but I feel as helpless as before, not knowing what I can do!
As a starting step I first think we need to look within ourselves and become better citizens. Most educated people in this country don't have any respect for the nation. People are always looking to get around systems, jump queues, litter, honk like crazy, don't follow traffic regulations... why can't we change these small things about ourselves. If these tiny things are unachievable how are we ever going to achieve a bigger cause?
At times I feel frustrated, angry and don't want to help people who can't help themselves.

I pray that we can build a better tomorrow on the rubble of our today which needs to be handled with extreme caution.
Yes,honestly everyone has never made his/her presence felt in a positive way
Thanks for dropping by Geeta... I couldn't think of anything else and thought at least we could start be being better citizens.
Hey I so agree. I think this protest march was badly organized. And really, changing CMs or Home Ministers will go nowhere in solving our issues. I believe we need an emergency regime for just 2 years to put systems in place.. what say?
Cuckoo
I agree. We need some stern measures. Our democracy is not helping us one bit. People want all the freedom and you have to pay a price for it. We forget that we made a lot of sacrifices to get freedom. Nothing comes cheap. We as a country have to make some changes for the better of all.
